FAQs

Answer is not here? See Trip Notes. Or ask Deb

  1. What tour to book? What’s the difference if I choose “photography” tour?

Special summer public events are available for up to 12 people. You may also generate a Private Charter (group/family) or photography trip or photography workshop. Just ask.

Taking hand-held photos is encouraged on any trip, with photographic lighting used throughout the trip. However, on a dedicated “photography trip,” serious photographers can take their time without annoying other people! Many people prefer to spend their time exploring as much as possible with only a phone or compact camera handy in their pocket. Feel free to ask that a date be dedicated as a photography trip- yes, just ask!

2. What about youngsters under 14 years?

You can ask for a special family-friendly trip (mildcaving/4 hours) anytime or in school holidays. Extended family groups- consider generating your own private tour (Private Charter). These two options are best if you have little ones, because the trip will be designed to suit them.

Ask the operator about including kid(s) under 14 on other tours I offer. In many cases, 1 or 2 kids will be fine in a mixed group, but first Deb will want to ask about your previous experience and expectations and explain the challenges and options. There are trips in undeveloped caves elsewhere in Australia that readily welcome kids, but these caves may have a different character to our caves at Mole Creek.

3. The tour I want is not shown on the only date I have available.

You can ask Deb if it’s possible to generate a tour for you. It is impossible to make caving trips available every day of the week. PLEASE CONSIDER: Mole Creek is easy to reach as a day-trip from much of the north, the north-west coast, Launceston and northern Midlands. Ask Deb for a local’s knowledge on traveling times from anywhere and other tips. Making the start time from your Hobart base that morning may be a stretch (3 hours non-stop) but perhaps ok from somewhere else.

4. COVID Safe Plan

This Plan has been updated after Tasmania’s border revision 15 December 2021.

  1. Working from home: Wild Cave Tours has no premises open to the public. The operator normally works from home. Commercial activities are not held or commenced indoors.
  2. Physical distancing and masks: Normal distancing requirements are to be applied i.e. 1.5 m, outside the cave or tour vehicle. However social distancing is impractical throughout a cave. Participants are advised correctly used masks will reduce risk of infection by airborne virus particles. Guests may bring their own or use a surgical mask provided. Normal social distancing and/or the premises’ own rules apply where a meal at another business premises is provided. The RHV (Restricted Hire Vehicle) is allowed to carry passengers normally, just like taxis, however masks are required to be worn. Participants may choose to use their own car instead.
  3. Handwashing and hygiene: Hand sanitizer and soap and water is available for use in the accepted manner from the start of the activity. The use of gloves while caving is encouraged. Each participant will use the PPE provided on loan for their own personal use, avoiding sharing. However, essential group safety equipment is shared in the caves.
  4. Cleaning: The trip leader will ensure all group use equipment and loaned PPE such as helmets, overalls/other clothing, gloves and boots are cleaned, dried and stored in the usual manner after use. The RHV will be cleaned in the accepted Covid-Safe manner after each tour.
  5. Monitor symptoms: The trip leader or organizer will inquire of participants’ health at the commencement of each tour to ensure anyone who is at all unwell or has any diarrhoea or respiratory or unusual taste and smell symptoms does not continue with the activity. Any unwell or symptomatic person will be advised to go home and arrange to be tested for Covid 19.
  6. Plan ahead: No further planning is required additional to the measures above.
