Accessible experiences

For access tourism

After meeting at Mole Creek, a short drive later we arrive at the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area at the edge of kooparoona niara (Great Western Tiers).

Enjoy a private charter interpretive experience and picnic at this secluded, ancient meeting place. Learn about the karst landscape and its limestone caves, earth history, aboriginal cultural values, forest ecology and biodiversity.

Photography is encouraged.

Mobility: Unformed walking tracks may restrict your World Heritage experience. However, peace and seclusion await you at the picnic place; where birdsong abounds and a timeless connection to this ancient grassland may be felt. The mountains and their alpine hinterlands are close above us, and the forest-meadow edge is a biodiversity hotspot.

Other access clients: Depending on your ability, enjoy a half hour walk each way along Sassafras Creek, birdwatching, maybe spotting a platypus or echidna, to the cave entrance. (spot the platypus I photographed)

At the cave: Let’s rest awhile or consider a short cave trip. There are no steps or fixed lighting; this is a truly undeveloped cave. There is some stooping but the cave is spacious.

See spectacular cave minerals reflected in quiet pools or a shallow flowing stream. Learn to respect cave animals and minimal impact caving techniques.

Would you like to go as far as the glow-worm chamber? It is not that far! We will turn out our helmet lights (quick as we can!) and allow the little green lights to appear for us.

Then we walk back along the creek to the start, for lunch or a cup of tea.

Further details: These private charters are available for minimum two people e.g. you and your carer. Discount for carers if four or more people book. Please contact Deb for a quote and to design the experience to suit you, based on your requirements and interests.
